On the morning of September 7, a tense argument erupted on Arise TV between anchor Rufai Oseni and guest Jesutega Onokpasa. The dispute began when another guest openly questioned the credibility of the judges who upheld President Bola Tinubu’s election win on February 25, 2023, leading to a heated debate.
In response, Onokpasa expressed his frustration with his fellow lawyer, saying, “He’s not a Supreme Court judge. Maybe if he were an excellent lawyer, he’d understand better. It’s not right to doubt the integrity of the respected Supreme Court judges.”

Rufai stepped in, urging Onokpasa to reconsider. He stressed the need for civility and avoiding personal attacks, suggesting, “Please, rethink your comments. Criticizing a fellow guest personally isn’t appropriate. Show respect to everyone by retracting your statements.”
Despite Rufai’s request, Onokpasa stood firm, stating he wouldn’t retract his words because he wouldn’t tolerate any disrespect toward the Supreme Court justices. He said, “As a lawyer, I can’t let another lawyer disrespect the Supreme Court justices. I’ve clarified my position, and I won’t take it back.”
