Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, also the National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has expressed his appreciation for the fair distribution of appointments to the Southeast geo-political zone by President Bola Tinubu, despite his party’s loss in five eastern states during the February 25 election.

Governor Soludo noted that President Tinubu’s administration has not marginalized Ndigbo, citing the appointment of former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator Dave Umahi, as Minister of Works. He also highlighted the presence of other Southeastern ministers in key roles, such as Doris Anite (Industry, Trade and Investment; Imo state), Uche Nnaji (Innovation, Science and Technology; Enugu), Nkiru Onyejeocha (Minister of State, Labour and Employment; Abia), and Uju Kennedy (Women Affairs; Anambra).

During the last presidential election, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party on whose platform President Tinubu ran, secured 127,605 votes in the South East.

Governor Soludo praised President Tinubu for the appointment of Senator Umahi, describing it as a “juicy” portfolio for the region. He noted that President Tinubu did not consider regional disposition and voting patterns when making the appointment.

Reflecting on the significance of the appointment, Governor Soludo said, “Given the totality of votes we contributed from Southeast and looking at the ministerial portfolios, we may not have the basis to begin to demand for ‘juicy’ portfolios. But, the President graciously gave us one of our finest and best, one of the few engineers who pioneered concrete pavement as the current standard for road construction.”

Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of federal government cooperation for development, stating, “Nigeria is a federation. You cannot stay in your state, clap with one hand and expect noise. You need the other hand, which is the federal government, for things to work.”

He also praised Engr. Umahi’s leadership and expressed hope for further collaboration in addressing the region’s infrastructure challenges. Governor Soludo welcomed the prospect of additional federal government support for road infrastructure in Anambra State.
