The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria has issued a warning against a planned rally before President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the United Nations General Assembly on September 20.

Tinubu, the president of Nigeria, is scheduled to speak at the 78th session of the distinguished UNGA General Debate at the UN’s New York headquarters.

Tinubu will speak on the first day of the gathering as the fifth African leader, according to the roster of speakers provided by the Office of the General Assembly President.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Tai Balofin, the head of the APC’s US chapter, asserted that a suspended party member, Adesegun Labinjo, is allegedly masterminding the rally.

While noting that the issue has been reported to the appropriate authorities, Balofin urged restraint and issued a caution against harming the nation’s reputation abroad.

We have lately learned that certain people intend to hold a rally during President Tinubu’s visit to the UN, according to the statement. This event is intended as a direct response to a gathering that Mr. Labinjo, a suspended person claiming to be the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has scheduled for September 20, 2023.

“The fallout from Mr. Labinjo’s protest has sparked worries about future disruption and turmoil from the Obidients who intend to damage the president’s name. We want to let the public and any other interested parties know that we have acted quickly to alert the proper authorities about this unneeded and potentially disruptive proposal.

“The Chairman of APC USA, Prof. Tai Balofin, has issued a stern warning to those considering disrupting any sideline events or the visit of President Tinubu. He emphasizes that any individual who violates the law will face arrest and prosecution to the fullest extent of the legal framework.

“We fully recognise and respect the principles of freedom of speech and association, which are fundamental to a democratic society. However, we urge all citizens to exercise these rights responsibly and in a manner that does not tarnish the reputation of our President.
