The areas most severely affected by the violence include Sabo, Makun, GRA, Ijagba, and Ajaka in Sagamu. Residents in these localities have been living in constant fear as the clashes escalate.
Among the tragic casualties of this violence was an SS3 student who met a grim fate at a local barbershop in the Sabo area. Additionally, a 50-year-old gospel musician known as Sunny Pa lost his life during the crossfire. Another victim, identified as Elemere, a renowned drummer associated with a local Fuji musician, was brutally murdered along with two other women at a local bar on a separate occasion.
In response to these alarming cult-related killings, the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, emphasized that addressing the situation in Sagamu extends beyond deploying an anti-cultism squad. He pointed out that local elders and politicians must play a role in addressing this complex issue.
Adejobi also stressed the importance of police officers and other security agents remaining resolute in their efforts to combat cultism and criminal activities, even in the face of challenges. He acknowledged that many of the cultists causing havoc in Sagamu were not originally from the town but traveled from neighboring areas to perpetrate violence.
In light of these developments, Adejobi called for a multi-faceted approach to tackle the cult-related crisis in Sagamu. He suggested that the community should take collective action by convening meetings with local authorities, police, and vigilante groups to address the matter comprehensively. The aim is to curb the pervasive influence of cultism among various segments of the population in the town.
