A man from Anambra who goes by the name Chinedu was detained for allegedly posting a woman’s naked videos on social media after she allegedly refused to give him the three thousand naira (N3,000) he asked to have the video removed.

The suspect, a native of the Ezinato community in the Awka South Local Government Area of the State, allegedly chatted with the victim on Facebook and WhatsApp and asked her to give him the money he needed so that the video wouldn’t go viral online and so that he wouldn’t send it to her husband.

“I chatted the woman and told her that I have her nude video, and that she should pay me N3000 if she doesn’t want the video to go viral,” he confessed.

The young man, who had shaggy hair and a jagged appearance, stated that his friend Chiagozie Nwafor, who is also from the Ezinato community, had provided the film to him and told him that he would want them to use it to extort the victim.

However, according to the information that was made accessible, the victim (a lady) lost her memory card sometime in the beginning of this year. A few months later, someone approached her and claimed to have her nude film.

The suspect was questioned by Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, and when she refused to provide the money, he confessed to having deleted the tape after having chatted with the victim.

However, he insisted that he was unaware of the fact that his friend ultimately shared the footage on social media after the victim refused “to cooperate and dance to their tune.”

He testified that numerous people acquired the film, claimed to have purchased it from him, and afterwards traded it for N3000 on Facebook.

After questioning the suspect at her office in Awka, Commissioner Obinabo commented on the situation and insisted that the Anambra State Government detested crime, had laws that forbade it, and would take legal action against anyone found guilty.

This administration of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo detests rascality and idiocy and would never let anyone get away with blackmailing or disclosing another person’s naked footage,” she said.

According to information obtained, the suspect is currently in the care of the Anambra State Police Command and will be charged with crimes against children, sexual assault, and gender-based violence in Awka.
