Beatrice Itubo, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor in Rivers State, filed a petition with the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja, but it was denied.
The People’s Democratic Party candidate Simnalayi Fubara’s victory in the March 18 governorship election was contested in the case.
With 302,614 votes, Simnalayi Fubara defeated Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress, who received 95,274 votes, to win the governorship.

Following the filing of a petition challenging Fubara’s victory by the LP and APC candidates, the tribunal reached its conclusion.
Following the adoption of final written addresses and arguments from all parties, the tribunal, led by Justice Cletus Emifonye, ruled on Monday, dismissing the Labour Party’s petition on grounds of lacking merit and failure to substantiate the allegations.
