TRENDING: There Is Evidence That Igbos Migrated From Ife – Ooni

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, asserts that there is evidence demonstrating that the Igbo race did in fact come from Ile-Ife.

This was said by him on Saturday as he spoke to media ahead of an international conference at his palace in Ile-Ife with the theme “Ile-Ife and Yoruba Civilization: Nexus between Tradition and Modernity.”

Ooni revealed that there is Ile-Igbo here in the palace, which was not a recent development but has been existing here for decades, and that there is evidence that the Igbo race has its beginnings here in Ile-Ife.

Instead of depending on tainted history, Oba Ogunwusi asked academics in Nigerian colleges to accurately document the history of the Yoruba race.

The Yoruba race has about a quarter of its history documented, the monarch said, adding that adequate recording will not only promote unity but also expose the linkages between ethnic groupings.

Ogunwusi explained that one of the reasons he is working with particular universities is to promote global solidarity by accurately documenting the history of the race.

He said: “We have good evidence to believe that the Igbo race has its roots here in Ile-Ife. There is Ile-Igbo here in the palace, which was not a recent creation but has been existing here for decades. For this and many other reasons, I believe we need proper documentation of our history.

“We are not involving government in this project so that we can just place all the facts together, we must write our history properly and put things the right for the coming generations.”

Siyan Oyeweso, a prominent history professor who also spoke at the conference, said it aims to bring researchers together to talk about how to accurately chronicle Yoruba history with a focus on Ile-Ife as the cradle of the race.
