Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator chosen to look into the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) operations, is said to have given President Bola Tinubu an interim report.

Remember that on July 28, 2023, Tinubu nominated Obazee, a former CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, as the Special Investigator to look into the actions taken by the apex bank while its governor, Godwin Emefiele, was suspended.

The President asked Obazee to cooperate with the necessary security and anti-corruption authorities to complete the task and stated in the letter, which he personally signed, that the action was a continuation of the government’s anti-corruption campaign.

Using a staff that is appropriately qualified, experienced, and capable, Obazee is also looking into the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and other government business entities in addition to the CBN.

The preliminary assessment was given to the President for any necessary action, according to sources in the presidency who spoke to The Punch under the condition of anonymity.

According to the source, the interim report prompted a leadership change at the CBN and would provide the president the opportunity to make some crucial choices that would advance the nation.

The official continued by saying that the president and his team are now analysing the report in order to quickly reach a conclusion.
