Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Leads Observer Mission to Liberia’s 2023 General Election

Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, is leading the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) election observer mission to Liberia for the country’s upcoming 2023 general election.

The announcement was made by Chinyere Oge-Kalu, the National Publicity Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC). He emphasized the global concern about efforts by undemocratic forces to undermine the progress made in establishing democracy in the West African subregion in recent years, particularly in Nigeria.

The 2023 Presidential election in Liberia, scheduled for October 10, 2023, has garnered significant attention from the international community and organizations dedicated to democracy. Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, the National Chairman of IPAC, is leading a delegation of the IPAC observer mission team to Monrovia. The team comprises Political Party Leaders from Nigeria, including Hon. Muhammed Lawal Nalado, the National Chairman of the Accord Party, Chief Ralf Okey Nwosu, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Hajiya Zainab A. Ibrahim, the Deputy National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Highlighting the importance of the mission, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is leading the African Elders Forum, along with other prominent regional bodies, to observe the Liberian elections. Their presence underscores the significance of ensuring that democratic processes and principles are rigorously followed to achieve a positive outcome that will strengthen democracy on the African continent.

Upon their arrival in Monrovia, Engr. Yabagi, the IPAC chairman, addressed journalists, expressing hope that the Liberian election would reignite faith in democracy and its principles in the West African sub-region and across the entire African continent.
