Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has provided an explanation regarding discrepancies in his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate. This clarification, as conveyed by one of his aides, Dele Momodu, aims to address allegations of forgery raised by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The controversy centers on the name “Sadiq Abubakar” appearing on Atiku’s WAEC certificate, which differs from his other credentials. Atiku’s response, as shared by Momodu, sheds light on the matter.

According to Atiku, he used the name “Sadiq Abubakar” when he sat for his WAEC exams. After successfully passing the exams, he took the step of legal affirmation by swearing an affidavit, confirming that “Sadiq Abubakar” and “Atiku Abubakar” are one and the same person. This clarification extends to his academic journey, where he attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) as “Atiku Abubakar” and was employed in the Customs Service under the same name.

This development highlights the importance of transparency and authenticity in political discourse and underscores the need for candidates to address concerns regarding their educational background or any other relevant qualifications. It also serves as a reminder of the rigorous scrutiny that accompanies the political landscape.
