Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, has announced that it will shortly meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President of the organisation, made this known on Saturday when he received the leadership of the Supreme Council of Nigeria Traditional Rulers, Southeast chapter, at his residence.

Other ethnic groups in Nigeria, according to Iwuanyanwu, have sold the dummy of perceived dread of succession of the Igbo ethnic group to the Federal Government, creating distrust of every good intention of the group before the government.

Citing data, the Ohaneze leader stated that the Igbos are the most important players in Nigeria’s initiative since they own over 60 per cent of the investments in the country.

He went on to say that their investments and residential identities are dispersed around the country, in contrast to other ethnic groups, which invest and reside only in their ethnic geographical location.

He said: “Your request (Supreme Council of Nigeria Traditional Rulers, South East chapter) and solidarity visit have reinvigorated my leadership intention to see President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on issues concerning the Igbo ethnic group, more especially the need to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB. His continual detention is escalating insecurity in the Southeast.

“Let us see when he’s released, any person or group that will be instigating insecurity or crisis in Igboland using his name or detention. Some people and groups are illegally feasting on his popularity and detention just to cause unnecessary trouble and problems in the entire Southeast and for their own selfish interests. There must be peace and stability in Igboland. Immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will definitely restore sanity.”
