In a surprising turn of events, Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and a close ally of Bola Tinubu, challenged the results of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023. According to Lawal, it was not Bola Tinubu who won the election but the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi.

In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, Lawal claimed that available data from independent sources indicated that Peter Obi had received the majority of votes, with Atiku Abubakar coming second, while Bola Tinubu trailed in a distant third place.

Lawal also criticized the ethics and morality surrounding Bola Tinubu’s candidacy, citing ongoing revelations about his personal and political background. He suggested that Tinubu should voluntarily resign to avoid further public humiliation and embarrassment.
