The Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Aloy Ejimakor, has speculated on why former President Muhammadu Buhari arrested and incarcerated the agitator.

Kanu’s detention, according to Ejimakor, is the result of tribal politics that have engulfed Nigeria.

He claimed that Kanu’s incarceration was not legal.

He encouraged President Bola Tinubu not to validate such a measure in a post on X.

“Buhari’s detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was not based on law but on the politics of tribalism that has dogged Nigeria since time. Tinubu (@officialABAT) shouldn’t validate it. #FreeMNK,” he wrote.

Kanu was apprehended during Buhari’s presidency owing to his advocacy for Biafra’s independence.

He was apprehended in Kenya and will be extradited to Nigeria in June 2021.

Following his return to Nigeria, he was re-arrested in court by the Nigerian government.
