As the Supreme Court declined to accept new evidence in a case involving forgeries against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made fun of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election scheduled for February 25.

As previously reported by Anaedoonline.ng, the court ruled that Atiku’s application could not be approved since the Electoral Act forbids changing an election petition in this way.

According to Justice John Okoro, the deadline for submitting evidence has gone and cannot be extended. He went on to say that the 180 days allotted for hearing petitions related to elections is set in stone and cannot be changed.

He asserts that the Supreme Court is unable to use section 22 of its act after the 180 days for the trial court to deliver judgment has lapsed.

When Justice Okoro read his ruling, he decided to start by evaluating the motion made by Atiku and the PDP to provide new evidence in the form of academic records of President Bola Tinubu, which was obtained through documents from Chicago State University.

He emphasised how crucial it is to find out if the country’s legal system permits the court to consider new evidence at this point in the case.

Onanuga declared in a post on X that Atiku’s career is over in the wake of the court’s decision over his “so-called” new evidence against Tinubu.

He pushed the former vice president to send his long-overdue congrats to his longtime friend Tinubu.

He wrote: “Supreme Court has spoken: Atiku’s so-called new evidence runs foul of the Electoral Act and the constitution. It’s all over for the PDP presidential candidate.

“The Waziri should write his long delayed congratulatory message to his old friend.”
