Uzodinma Breaks Silence Over Brutalization of NLC President, Ajaero In Imo

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has said that some people and organisations are currently attempting to blackmail his administration in advance of the state’s governorship election on November 11.

In advance of the next elections, President Bola Tinubu gave flags to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidates in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi. The governor made these comments on Thursday in the Presidential Villa.

Uzodinma was responding to the demonstration that the Nigeria Labour Congress, or NLC, organised in Owerri on Wednesday and that resulted in the abuse of Joe Ajaero, the union president.

Ajaero had said that after some miscreants had taken over the protest, security personnel had mistreated him. The employees were demonstrating against underpaid wages.

Speaking on the subject, Uzodinma maintained that there are no unpaid pay owed to the state employees.

Speaking about Joe Ajaero’s predicament, Uzodinma said that Ajaero has had difficulty keeping his positions as the labour union’s national president and interested party in Imo State politics separate.

He said, “From January 2020, there is no month that we failed to pay salaries. Before this time, I thought that the labour union is a democratic entity that allows the opinion of people. I don’t pay federal civil servants, I only pay Imo State civil servants.

“I challenge any Imo State civil servant to come up and say that he did not receive salary from January 15, 2020 till date.
