Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has sworn to oppose any attempt to meddle in his political system in the South-South State.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Wike made this statement while receiving a solidarity visit on Thursday from members of the National Assembly’s Rivers State caucus in his office.

Remember that impeachment proceedings against Wike and the burning of the State House of Assembly building were purportedly the result of disagreements between Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, his successor as governor.

Speaking to the National Assembly, Wike declared that his new role as FCT minister was keeping him busy and that he had no interest in running the state.

However, the former candidate for president vowed to oppose anyone who attempted to topple the democratic institutions he had worked so hard to establish.

Wike said: “I am not interested in the governance of Rivers State. Am here as Governor in FCT, I am interested in the political structure we’ve built over the years in Rivers state.

“Anybody who tried it will get the resistance of his life. Anybody who puts his hands in Rivers state political structures, what you see, you see.”

Additionally, the Minister refuted Governor Fubara’s demand for 25% of Rivers State revenue, calling the accusers of such accusations dumb.

“I was governor for eight years. I am now FCT minister, not just minister, and some will say that I am asking for 25 percent; that is madness,” he said.

He charged the parliamentarians not to let the state and the nation down, saying that people should learn to appreciate those who have, in one way or another, contributed to their lives.

Wike said: “Those of you that God has given the opportunity don’t disappoint your state, don’t disappoint Nigerians. When you make a mistake, we will call you to order. Take it in good faith; don’t say we are coming for kickbacks.”

The delegation’s leader, House of Representatives minority leader Kingsley Chinda, had earlier stated that the caucus was in the area to demonstrate support for the FCT minister and to thank President Tinubu for appointing Wike to the position.

He said: “We thank you for invaluable support for all of us. You supported us all through the primaries. You are the reason why we are in the National Assembly today.”
