The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Imo, Mohammed Barde, to the Force Headquarters. This move is aimed at upholding the principles of fairness and impartiality during the electoral proceedings although it has sparked controversies amidst the political tension in the state.

The announcement was made by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. He stated that it’s important to note that the decision to reshuffle the CP is not an indictment of the affected officer but rather part of a broader strategy to enhance security measures and ensure transparency throughout the electoral process.

Adejobi also urged the electorate to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by adhering to the law, as their cooperation is essential in guaranteeing a smooth and successful election.

While this announcement specifically addresses the redeployment in Imo State, the statement did not mention whether similar changes are planned for the police commissioners in the other two states, Bayelsa and Kogi, where off-cycle governorship elections are also scheduled to take place on the same day.
