Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the general election of 2023, has charged that INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, changed the rules midway through the election.

Remember that INEC had repeatedly assured Nigerians that results would be sent to them electronically.

But in the end, the results—particularly the presidential election results—were manually tallied.

After INEC declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu the election winner, Obi filed a petition with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in an attempt to obtain redress.

The PEPT affirmed the INEC ruling, and Obi went to the Supreme Court only to lose there as well.

In a Monday media appearance, Obi said that the electoral umpire had “shifted the goalposts in the middle of the game” and blamed INEC for his loss.

But he said, “This is just the beginning of our quest for a new Nigeria,” and added, “We are not giving up.”

“We are now effectively in the opposition,” the former Anambra State Governor said.
