The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the funds given to the First Lady’s office.

According to Obi, Remi, Tinubu’s wife, has an obligation to care for her husband because the First Lady’s position is illegal.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi suggested that funds allotted to the First Lady’s office be diverted to the education of girls.

According to Obi: “First Lady’s office is not in our Constitution, all the monies allocated to the unconstitutional Office of the First Lady should have been transferred to educating and caring for the girl-child. The First Lady’s job is to look after the husband and work with him to ensure everything works well.”

N1.5 billion was set aside in President Bola Tinubu’s planned 2023 Supplementary Budget for vehicles for the First Lady’s Office, N5 billion for a presidential boat, and an additional N12.5 billion for the Presidential Air Fleet.

Despite social media campaigns opposing the Supplementary Budget’s ratification by the National Assembly, the bill was quickly approved.
