The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed alarm over the Department of State Services (DSS) denial of access to Kanu on Thursday. Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, raised concerns about the sudden restriction of visitors, questioning the motives behind the DSS’s actions.
According to Prince Emmanuel Kanu, none of those attempting to visit Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday was allowed access, a move he deemed a flagrant violation of the Abuja High Court order. He voiced doubts about his brother’s health condition, emphasizing that the denial of access raises suspicions that the DSS might be concealing information about Nnamdi Kanu’s well-being.
Expressing frustration, Prince Emmanuel Kanu criticized the DSS for seemingly disregarding court orders and suggested that the agency was operating more like a private security company than a government institution. He questioned the continued detention of his brother in defiance of court orders and emphasized the urgency of addressing Nnamdi Kanu’s deteriorating health condition.

The Abuja High Court had previously issued an order directing the DSS to grant Nnamdi Kanu unfettered access to his family and lawyers twice a week, making the recent denial of visitation rights a potential violation of the court order. The family remains adamant about seeking clarity on Nnamdi Kanu’s condition and access to him as mandated by the court.
