Tony Nwulu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Imo State, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to learn from the Nigeria Police and dismiss the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Imo State, Sylva Agu.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, redeployed Imo Police Commissioner, Mohammed Barade, for the purpose of neutrality.

INEC, on the other hand, had retained Agu as the state REC notwithstanding the charges against him.

Nwulu claimed on Arise TV’s morning show on Friday, a few hours before the off-cycle election, that the failure of INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu to dismiss the Imo REC suggests that the commission’s chairman has been compromised.

Calling on INEC to take the path of the Nigeria Police, Nwulu said, “All we have asking for, just like the IG of police has done, the IG of police rightly put it; I want to show neutrality, it is not an indictment we accept whatever thing you call it, all we’re asking professor Mahmood remove this woman if for nothing else for neutrality before all the party have come out to say remove her, we do not want her to supervise or superintend over this election, we are not selecting for INEC who to choose.

“All we are asking is remove this woman, you have the right to choose whoever you want to choose as an institution, but the people are telling you, please remove her, so two things are involved there if all these parties have told professor Mahmood to remove this woman, and he is not doing it, two things it is either the prof has gone deaf or the prof is compromised.”
