The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reaffirmed its neutrality in the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, scheduled for Saturday. Ohanaeze Ndigbo has clarified that it does not have a preferred candidate in the election.

Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, issued a statement condemning what he described as a grand conspiracy orchestrated by powerful figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to politically undermine Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

Isiguzoro was responding to claims made by Salihu Lukman, the former APC National Vice Chairman (North West), alleging that Governor Uzodinma was rewarded as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum after financially supporting the efforts to adopt former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the APC consensus Presidential candidate.

Isiguzoro emphasized Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s commitment to remaining neutral in the Imo State governorship election. The organization believes in fostering a fair and transparent electoral process that upholds the principles of democracy.

The statement clarified that Ohanaeze Ndigbo cannot stand idly by while influential forces within the APC engage in a witch hunt against Governor Uzodinma, seeking to deny him federal backing and manipulate the outcome of the elections.

The alleged reasons for targeting Governor Uzodinma included his involvement in working against President Tinubu during the APC Presidential primaries, alongside the Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu. Notably, both Adamu and the APC National Secretary lost their positions due to their actions against Tinubu during the APC primaries.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed suspicions that powerful forces within the APC were demanding that Governor Uzodinma be unfairly sacrificed, targeting him as a scapegoat for their political vendettas.

The statement referenced a press interview by Salihu Lukman, which further reinforced these suspicions. Lukman allegedly pointed out that Governor Uzodinma was rewarded as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum after supporting the attempts to adopt Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the APC consensus Presidential candidate.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s stance remains clear: neutrality in the Imo State governorship election while advocating for a fair and democratic process.
