There has apparently been an agreement between the Israeli administration and Hamas to put an end to the fighting for four days.

The cessation of hostilities, as decided upon on Wednesday, will enable the entry of much needed humanitarian aid into the beleaguered enclave and the release of 50 hostages held in Gaza.

The US, Israel, and Hamas are all involved in the negotiations, which are being brokered by Qatar and have been going on for a few days. According to Anaedoonline.ng, all sides are optimistic that a solution will be reached.

Hamas: We Have Full Control Of Gaza Border – Israeli Military

Israeli reports state that more than 200 hostages are being held by Hamas after they were abducted during their October 7 raid into Israel, which claimed 1,200 fatalities. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that 50 women and children will be freed over the course of four days, and that the violence may stop for every 10 hostages that are freed. Interestingly, the exchange of Palestinian inmates for the hostages was left out of the statement.

“Israel’s government is committed to returning all the hostages home. Tonight, it approved the proposed deal as a first stage to achieving this goal,” read the statement, released after hours of deliberation that were closed to the press.

According to Hamas, the release of the 50 hostages is contingent upon the release of 150 Palestinian women and children who are presently being held captive in Israeli prisons. Furthermore, according to the Palestinian group, the truce agreement will make it easier for many trucks bringing medical, humanitarian, and fuel relief to enter Gaza.

In addition, Hamas claims that Israel has promised not to initiate any attacks or make any arrests in any part of Gaza throughout the length of the ceasefire.

Expressing his approval, U.S. President Joe Biden has welcomed this agreement. “Today’s deal should bring home additional American hostages, and I will not stop until they are all released,” the American president said in a statement.

The Qatari administration has declared that 50 civilian women and children captives in Gaza will be freed in exchange for the release of many Palestinian women and children detained in Israeli prisons. A statement said that the start time of the truce will be disclosed in the following 24 hours. This agreement signifies the start of the first ceasefire in a conflict that has killed many people and left Gaza in ruins.

The goal, according to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, is still to eliminate Hamas, free all hostages, and guarantee Israel’s security.
