According to a report by Newsmen, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members in Kano State have called off their planned march and protest.

Following the ruling of the Appeal Court, which removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office and named APC candidate Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna the victor of the state’s March 18 election, the two political parties had scheduled their respective events for Saturday.

However, citing security concerns, both parties have since cancelled their arrangements.

Additionally, the Kano State Police Command issued a warning to anyone or any group attempting to organise a demonstration, protest, or public march.

The decision to call off the protest and rally was made in the face of heightened security in Kano State’s capital. Some security personnel are wandering the state’s main thoroughfares, while others have been stationed at key areas, like the capital.

Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the state chairman of the NNPP, had earlier denied that any protest was planned, but some factions of the party had insisted on carrying it out. The party’s leadership has now instructed them to stop the drill and maintain composure, nevertheless.

The large-scale demonstration that the APC’s Gawuna/Garo Campaign Organisation had scheduled for Saturday has also been postponed. Mansur Haruna Dandago, an assistant to Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, stated that the party has scrapped the proposal after “looking at the issues of security of properties and lives that are at stake.”.”

In order to help avert any possible violence or instability in the state, it is a positive step that the protest and march have been postponed.
