Why Lagos Workers Should Be Earning N300,000 Monthly – Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’ (AAC) presidential candidate for 2023, has proposed that Lagos workers receive a minimum monthly pay of N300,000.

In light of the recent controversies surrounding the public procurement document that the Lagos state government released, Sowore stated that there was no reason why any person in Lagos state should be earning less than N300,000 following the revelation of the mismanagement and misappropriation by the Lagos state government in the public procurement document.

“There is no reason on earth that anyone in the Lagos state workforce should be earning less than N300k per month based on the revelations of mismanagement, misappropriation and embezzlement of Lagos revenues exposed recently. Don’t forget that my proposed minimum wage for Nigerian workers is N250k ($250) per month based the cost of living, inflation and purchasing power parity,” Sowore said.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Lagos state government faced harsh criticism following the revelation of a fictitious budget intended for procurement in the state by Funso Doherty, a former governorship candidate.

Doherty, the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) nominee for governor of Lagos State in 2023, stated that the government must prioritise its use of public funds.

Sowore made this remark as states throughout the country are still having difficulty raising their minimum wages to N30,000.
