Erring Judicial Officers To Be Punished – NJC React Over Kano Governorship Judgement

The controversy surrounding the certified true copy (CTC) of the Kano State governorship election appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja is scheduled to be investigated by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Tuesday, during a visit to Media Trust Ltd.’s Abuja headquarters, NJC officials affirmed the judgement.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, there has been disarray and criticism of the CTC regarding the appellate court’s decision on Friday, November 17. The decision removed Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and replaced him with Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the grounds that he was not a party member.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 17, the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Mohammed Bangari, acknowledged clerical flaws in the document but emphasised that the court’s decision is still enforceable.

The delegation’s head revealed that the petitions have been received and that the council will handle them in accordance with the regulations.

He said, “The petitions that have been written would not be taken immediately, they would have to go through the preliminary complaint assessment, those people would look at it, then send to the plenary, then plenary would look at it and they would set up a committee to look into and the judge and the petitioner would come with their lawyer.”

The senior official stated that the NJC’s probe would proceed even though Governor Yusuf’s attorney chose to include the CTC in the subjects of the appeal before the Supreme Court.
