The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has awarded two new hostels to the Federal Polytechnic in Oko, Anambra State, valued at N550 million, as part of its 2020 special intervention. Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a member of the Senate Committee on Education and TETFund, officially opened the hostels on Saturday. There is one for male students and one for female students.

The Anambra South Senatorial District’s Senator Ubah praised the TETFund for its assistance to the nation’s polytechnics and other higher education establishments. He said that the National Assembly would work with the executive branch to raise the standard of education in Nigeria through supervision and legislation.

Additionally, he said that the TETFund had paid N780,630,116.10 to support 101 polytechnic instructors pursuing Ph.D. programmes and 60 lecturers pursuing master’s degrees at foreign and local universities. He added that the TETFund has paid N111,471,159.50 for 90 employees to attend conferences both domestically and overseas.

He pleaded with the polytechnic administration to make the most of the residence halls and see to the safety and well-being of the students.

The director of the monitoring and evaluation department, Babatunde Olajide, represented Sonny Echono, the executive secretary of the TETFund, who stated that the hostels will improve the learning environment and solve the housing issues that students were facing. He declared that the TETFund was dedicated to giving the public beneficiary institutions and ensuring that they attain global standards in academic excellence.
