Dozens Feared Dead As Army Drone Bombs Kaduna Villagers ‘Mistakenly’

The local elders have met with the Kaduna administration and the army to make appeals to the relatives of the victims.

According to the Kaduna State Government, a Nigerian Army drone confused the villagers for terrorists, which is why Tudun Biri, a community under Igabi Local Government Area, was struck by a bomb.

Additionally, the government has promised to pay the striking victims.

The Nigerian Army presented the reasons behind the regrettable and inadvertent attack to a group of religious and traditional leaders, as well as heads of security agencies, at a meeting hosted by Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna.

Major VU Okoro, the general officer commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army, stated that although the Nigerian Army was on a normal mission against terrorists, it regrettably had an impact on the community members.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Sabuwa prayed for the souls of the deceased and expressed the condolences of the Kaduna State government and people to the families who had lost a loved one.

The government has transported dozens of injured people to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, while search and rescue activities are still ongoing.

The Nigerian Army and the Kaduna state government met with village elders to make pleas to the victims’ families, according to a security source who wished to remain anonymous. The source reportedly stated that the affected individuals would receive compensation.

Although there had been earlier reports that the attack was carried out by a Nigeria Air Force aircraft, the NAF had previously issued a statement denying any involvement in the tragedy due to the fact that they had not conducted any air operations within Kaduna at the time of the strike.

About thirty persons are said to have perished in the incident on Sunday night at around 9:00 p.m. The villagers claimed that the explosion occurred while they were gathering to remember Maulud in the village.
