Police in Benin City, Edo State, have detained 21-year-old Johnson Edosa on suspicion of killing his 23-year-old neighbour, Promise, over a dispute over food.
The victim and the suspect, who shared a home on East Circular Road, reportedly argued during the day over food, according to the police. The victim was attacked in the middle of the night while he was asleep by the suspect, who then used a knife to slit his throat.
Knowing about the crime, the suspect’s mother assisted him in burying the victim within the home in a small grave next to his father’s tomb.

Chidi Nwabuzor, a spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, verified the occurrence and stated that the Divisional Police Officer of St. Saviour has information regarding the murder case and arrested the suspect and his mother.
According to him, the suspect admitted to the crime but maintained his insanity. Additionally, he stated that the victim’s body had been unearthed by the police and transported to the Central Hospital for an autopsy.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with conducting additional investigation and prosecution in this matter, according to a police official. In addition, he cautioned the populace to report any suspicious activity to the authorities and to be cautious of their neighbours.
