According to reports, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who support Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are adamant about Rivers State Governor Siminlayi Fubara’s impeachment.

Months after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political turmoil in the South-South state, Anaedoonline.ng learned that Wike’s supporters were apparently unwavering in their plot to unseat the governor.

The minister’s camp reportedly reorganised and gathered the tools needed to impeach the governor in the upcoming days, according to report.

According to reports, the troops in the camp persuaded a significant pro-Niger Delta organisation to repudiate its present hostile stance towards the plot after it issued a strong warning against the governor’s impending ouster.

Nevertheless, rumours circulated that the minister’s team remained adamant about carrying out the impeachment plan in defiance of the president’s recommendations for a ceasefire and truce, presumably due to the potential consequences for regional politics and stability.

According to reports, the camp is taking the required steps to enlist the full cooperation of state entities possessing the authority to compel the impeachment.

Eight additional politicians who are sympathetic to the conspiracy apparently have law enforcement agents covering for them, while certain members of the state House of Assembly who are against the impeachment procedure are allegedly deprived of their security.

Remember how the relationship between Wike and Fubara deteriorated after certain state officials made a disastrous attempt?

When a portion of the assembly was set on fire by suspected arsonists—who have not been identified or brought to justice—the conflict between the two became more intense.

In addition, Governor Fubara claimed that he was ambushed by gunmen while he was escorting a few of his most senior staff members to the site of the arson to assess the extent of the infrastructure damage.

However, during a meeting in his Abuja office with a few governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike had revealed the details of their cold war.

He denied that he was looking to his successor for financial gain, claiming instead that Fubara was attempting to take control of the PDP organisation in Rivers.
