Leading Industrialist and Chairman/CEO of Innoson Vehicles, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, CON, has received recognition from the Nigeia Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) for his contributions to the industry, including being the first in Nigeria to manufacture vehicles fueled by compressed natural gas, or CNG.
Innoson Auto Plant was also named the 2023 Auto Plant in Nigeria during a vibrant ceremony that took place at Oriental Hotels in Lagos, with important attendees including Mr. Joseph Osanipin, Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
About two years prior to the removal of fuel subsidies and the widespread adoption of CNG as the preferred fuel substitute for petrol and diesel, Chukwuma began manufacturing CNG automobiles.
Innoson Vehicles Produces CNG, LNG Cars, Buses As Alternatives to Fuel
Innoson had approximately 100 units of various CNG vehicles on site in Nnewi, Anambra State, as of May 29, 2023, when the Federal Government announced that the subsidies had ended. This is on top of the vehicles that had previously been delivered to consumers in various regions of the nation.
Furthermore, even though the service is limited to IVM clients, Innoson has long since shown that it has the ability and facilities to convert cars that are now powered by petrol and diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG).
In order to focus on producing autogas vehicles, the manufacturer has started building a considerably larger multibillion-naira IVM plant annexe in Nnewi. The facility will likely be completed in the first quarter of 2024 and span over 300 plots of land.
Obum Osigwe, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Nnewi, who represented Chukwuma at the event, commented on the award: “I accept this prestigious award for the manufacturing plant of the year wholeheartedly on behalf of my boss and Chairman Chief Dr. Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma CON.” We are appreciative of this honour and promise to keep working hard to make our nation known around the world.
