The official removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment notice has been made by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Lawmakers gave notice of their withdrawal during a floor session in the House, stating their decision as an expression of respect for the President.

This comes after about 26 members who support former governor Nyesom Wike gathered on Wednesday morning at the House of Assembly Complex.

The division caused the House of Assembly to become divided, with 27 members defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This led in concurrent sessions, an attempt to remove the governor from office, and the assembly complex’s demolition.

Notably, Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, struck a peace agreement on Monday thanks to the efforts of Bola Tinubu. Both leaders were present at the meeting, which was held in the Aso Villa and featured Tinubu and Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser.

Along with other concessions, both parties agreed to withdraw all court cases in a significant step towards reconciliation.
