At Taraba Close, off Limpopo Street, Maitama, Abuja, the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) office has been taken over by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This comes after NSIPA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator, Halima Shehu, was recently suspended due to accusations of financial misconduct.

The EFCC officials were clearly visible inside and outside the premises. They were dressed in black suits, red ties, and red uniforms with the EFCC symbol on them. No one was allowed to enter or leave the building due to rigorous access restrictions.

Following an apparent altercation with individuals believed to be Department of State Services (DSS) employees, the EFCC ultimately seized complete command of the premises. During the transfer, Shehu and her key officers as well as her media aides were confined to their offices.

NSIPA sources disclosed that Halima Shehu, the national coordinator, is anticipated to make a statement after the circumstances are more clear. She is not making any comments about what is happening at the moment.

A planned event in Karu, where the organisation planned to give cash grants and starter packs to needy groups, has been cancelled due to Shehu’s suspension. Plans to assist victims of the illicit organ trade in Abuja have also been derailed.

Since she had not yet received an official letter of suspension, Shehu apparently rushed to the Presidential Villa to confirm the veracity of the news, leaving journalists waiting for her response at the event location.
