Kaduna Indigents Issued ‘Letter of Indigeneship’ by Oshodi-Isolo LGA for Army Recruitment

A user named @Agbojolowoku shared a video on X that went popular on Wednesday morning. It showed new recruits in the Nigerian Army who, although being native to Lagos State, were purportedly given “Letters of Indigeneship” upon enlisting.

The Oshodi-Isolo Local Government is accused of supplying these illegal documents through the Office of the Executive Chairman, enabling non-indigenous people to claim slots designated for Lagos State natives in the Nigeria Army recruitment. The local government is implicated in this constitutional violation.

Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, the Local Government Executive Chairman, quickly denied knowing about the letter and said it was not sent by him.

A statement from the Chairman’s Media Office addressed the controversy and was headlined “Letter of Indigeneship: Oshodi-Isolo Council Chairman, Oloyede Orders Thorough Investigation, Promises All those involved will face the full wrath of the law.”

Oloyede ordered a thorough probe into the situation in addition to declaring the letter to be fraudulent.

The unsettling video prompted the Executive Chairman to launch a thorough investigation after seeing the outcry on the internet.

Oloyede promised that everyone involved in the criminal act will face the full power of the law while highlighting how serious the issue was. The chairman of the council strongly disapproved and declared it a criminal conduct to issue the letter of indigeneship to non-indigenous people.

He vowed to leave no stone unturned in uncovering those responsible for this illicit issuance.

“I received the report of the unfortunate trending video, where a letter of indigeneship were purportedly issued to some non-indigenes, which has placed the local government in public glare. As the Executive Chairman, I have ordered that a thorough investigation be carried out and that all those involved be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.”

“Let me use this opportunity to inform our people that we shall not in any way sweep this unfortunate matter under the carpet, as we want to unearth those behind this to serve as deterrent to others who will want to drag the noble name of our council in disrepute. We will do the needful, we will not let any stone unturned,” he said.
