According to the ruling of a High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, three people are guilty of kidnapping charges.

Four accused were put on trial in the case concerning Chief Abbot Ogbobula’s abduction in June 2017. In the end, only three—Boma Thompson, Daniel Thankgod, and Emelike Mathias—were found guilty; the fourth suspect was found not guilty.

Chief Abbot Ogbobula’s murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping were among the four counts on which the aforementioned trio was found guilty during the trial, which was overseen by Justice Monina Danagogo on Thursday.

Augustine Ojekudo, the acquitted suspect Goodnews Nwoka’s attorney, responded to the decision by expressing his client’s relief and noting that Nwoka had been trying to help but became involved in legal trouble.

“This has convinced me that the courts are indeed the last hope of the common man and are indeed capable of dispensing justice,” Ojekudo said, emphasising his client’s satisfaction and praising the court.

Chief Ogbobula was abducted in Ahoada in June 2017. After being brought to Manikin Bush in Degema LGA, the victim was kept captive and eventually perished at the hands of his captors. After being buried for a while in a shallow grave, the body was eventually discovered by police investigators.

The guilty parties received different penalties as a consequence of the judicial procedures. The first, second, and fourth defendants were sentenced to seven years in jail without the possibility of a fine for their involvement in the conspiracy to kidnap (count one). They received a hanging death sentence in relation to the second offence of kidnapping.
