On Sunday, January 21, 2024, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, paid visits to the School of Nursing, Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi, and College of Nursing Sciences, Amichi. During his visit, he gave each institution a N10 million cheque to support their efforts in nursing education and training.
Obi said he has always supported the education of healthcare workers, particularly nurses, acknowledging their vital responsibilities in primary healthcare and their major contributions to the expansion of the health sector in a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter).

“There are concerns that there will be an acute shortage of nurses both locally and globally, which, our trained nurses can fill while providing adequate care for our teeming population,” Obi said.
“I thank the voluntary agencies for partnering with the government to improve our health and education sectors. I also appreciate the proprietors, management teams, and teachers of these health institutions for their efforts in ensuring that we have quality and well-trained healthcare professionals.
“Through our continuous investment in the critical areas of development, we will be able to move our nation forward and build the New Nigeria we all look forward to,” He concluded.
