UPDATE: Don’t Embark on Strike, Tinubu Begs NLC, TUC

Organised labour has been urged by Chief Bola Tinubu not to start a walkout.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) issued a 14-day nationwide notice, to which this appeal is in response.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stressed that the Federal Government does not want labour unrest to continue.

The difficulties that Nigerians are facing have prompted organised labour to issue a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government.

In response, the minister gave reassurance that the federal government will respect its agreements with the unions and is dedicated to keeping its word to employees.

In addition, he called for labour to have positive discussions with the administration, saying that “it is not in the government’s interest for labor to continue to go on strike.”

“I think the government keeps its promises. If there are other things that they (NLC, TUC) think they are concerned about, I think that they will sit down with the government and the government is ever ready to listen to labour so that we can have an amicable resolution to all these.

“We appeal with labour, let them come again, around the table to continue to have engagements and conversations around whatever grey areas they think they have in some of these agreements that have already been signed.”
