The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive prohibiting the use of Point-of-Sales (POS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations across the country.
This directive comes amidst public concerns over alleged unlawful transactions conducted by POS operators within certain police units. Egbetokun, speaking through the force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the necessity of the ban to prevent potential corrupt activities and criminal infiltration disguised as legitimate transactions.

The statement further warned of severe repercussions for any command or formation found violating the order. Both police officers and POS operators implicated in such violations would face severe consequences.
Egbetokun stressed the risks associated with the use of electronic payment devices within police facilities, including the compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and facilitation of illicit activities. Therefore, strict adherence to this directive is deemed non-negotiable.
The Inspector-General urged all officers and personnel to comply with the directive without exception, emphasizing that contravening officers or POS operators would face appropriate disciplinary and criminal action in accordance with the extant laws and regulations. Command and formation leadership would also be held accountable for any violations.
This move underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to maintain discipline and uphold the highest standards of integrity in its operations nationwide.
