A Chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Chukwuebuka Obidike, has appealed to the federal government to intervene in the life-threatening gully erosion in Okofia village in Otolo Nnewi.
Obidike, who was a member of the Tinubu/Shetimma Presidential Campaign Council, has also made effort to draw the attention of the federal government through a motion moved by Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the House of Representative Member, Representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency.
It will be recalled that last month, the House of Representatives while adopting Hon. Ezechi’s motion urged the President to direct the Ecological project office, to allocate resources to tackle the gully erosion in Okofia village, Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State, while implementing measures to prevent further environmental degradation.

The house also called the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with local authorities to provide relief and assistance to affected residents due to the severed road infrastructure and also directed the Federal Ministry of Power to expedite efforts in safeguarding the transmission tower adjacent to the erosion site to avert potential disruptions to power transmission and safeguard critical power infrastructure. The house further mandated the committees on Environment, Power, Emergency & Disaster Management, and Ecological Fund to ensure strict compliance with these resolutions.
These directives came on the heels of the Motion of urgent public importance raised by Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi where he highlighted the urgent need for federal intervention to address the gully erosion and power infrastructure risk threatening Okofia village in Otolo Nnewi.
According to him, the gully erosion has caused serious damage to the road infrastructure in the area, which has impeded access for residents and jeopardized essential services, thereby endangering lives.

Speaking to Anaedoonline.ng, Hon. Obidike Chukwuebuka, said that he was the one who approached the Delta State Lawmaker, who also happens to be his friend, to present the motion on the floor of the House of Representatives.
He revealed that although the Lawmaker is from Delta State, he accepted to present the motion, highlighting that the community needs the urgent intervention of both the federal and state governments.
According to Obidike Chukwuebuka, on his personal capacity, he has been in Abuja, reaching out to the federal agencies concerned to intervene quickly.
