Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has made clear where he stands on state governance. He has stated that he does not want to be called a political godfather and that he has not been involved in much state business since he left office.
Speaking on Monday, April 15, at a function in Borno State, El-Rufai disclosed that he has only made five trips to Kaduna since resigning nearly a year ago.
El-Rufai stated, “I don’t want to be a godfather and that’s why I don’t interfere in what is happening in Kaduna, I want him (the governor) to learn and get the job by himself,” El-Rufai announced.
“What we lack is good leadership, the majors aspects of good quality of leadership. The leader should get good people to get the job done.
“Only God can do everything by himself, no matter how good you are as a leader, you can be as effective as people around you and that’s why the saying that no country get better than the quality of his civil services,” he added.
El-Rufai’s replacement, Governor Uba Sani, has charged that the outgoing governor left the state heavily indebted, making it difficult to pay salaries.
According to reports, Sani supported El-Rufai’s loan plans during his time as a senator and they were accepted by the upper house of parliament.
