Boko Haram Ambush Nigerian Troops, Kill Newly Married Officer, Nine Others(Photos)

No fewer than 10 soldiers including a newly married senior officer have reportedly been killed by Boko Haram terrorists during an attack, last week, security sources told our correspondent.

The newly married officer killed during the attack, a lieutenant, was identified as Babakaka Shehu Ngorgi of the 202 Battalion in Bama, Borno State.

“We got a signal that we lost about 10 soldiers to Boko Haram terrorists. One of them, Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi just got married recently. I attended his marriage on 7th of December, 2019 at the command guest house in Maiduguri. Dozens of soldiers have been killed since Boko Haram began attacking military bases in 2018.

“In the last one week, Boko Haram fighters have killed and wounded several Nigerian soldiers in the city of Baga, Magumeri, Baga to Cross Kauwa highway and Maiduguri-Damboa highway,” the source added.

Anaedoonline.ng reports that  President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd .) , on Sunday, condemned what he called “ the dastardly attack on UN aid helicopter in the Northeast on Saturday by the Boko Haram terrorists” .

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity , Garba Shehu, in a statement , quoted Buhari as saying that the attack was a “rear guard action ” of members of the sect who he said have been under pressure from the military .

The statement was titled “President Buhari condemns Boko Haram’ s cowardly attack on UN in the North East ”.

The President was quoted as saying that , “ This latest cowardly attack on the UN humanitarian helicopter is yet another desperate rear guard action by the Boko Haram terrorists who have been under intense pressure from the Nigerian military.
