If Governor Nasir El-Rufai is chosen as the APC’s vice-presidential candidate in 2023, the party may lose some Christian stalwarts.

El-Rufai is one of the governors tipped to be Bola Tinubu’s running partner and standard bearer.

Certain party leaders, however, have pledged to defect if this occurs, a situation that will mostly benefit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During a conversation with Newsmen, an insider revealed the information amid the continuous horse-trading.

He said that the Christian leadership in Nigeria, as well as its members, do not want the Kaduna governor to be president.

The Southern Kaduna problems are a major source of resistance to his candidacy. Hundreds of individuals, mostly Christians, have died as a consequence of repeated gunman attacks.

Despite the frequent wrongful murder of people, El-Rufai has long been accused of not doing enough to safeguard the region.

Several towns have been targeted for years, leaving horrifying accounts of massacres that took the lives of men, women, children, and the elderly.

Despite this, there are no regular arrests and prosecutions of those involved in what some refer to as a “religious war.”

More than 30 people were slain last week in Kajuru Local Government Area’s Maikori, Dogo Noma, Ungwan Sarki, and Sabo Gida villages.

El-Rufai is “in a very poor light” as a result of the horrible crimes committed in Southern Kaduna, according to the source.

“In APC, many Christian chieftains don’t want El-Rufai. If that happens, they’ll be furious and will react by defecting or returning to the PDP”, he declared.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expects presidential candidates to announce their running mates this week.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said they have until June 17 to tender the names.
