Sharia Law Does Not Apply To Non-Muslims – Sultan Of Sokoto

According to Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, non-Muslims are exempt from the Sharia law that is in effect in Sokoto State.

The Sultan also reassured non-Muslims that they are secure and free to profess their religion and that they should not show any fear because of it.

He clarified that no one will be coerced to convert to Islam and that Sharia solely applies to Muslims.

Youths Storm Sultan’s Palace Over ‘Blasphemous Comment’

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the religious/traditional ruler provided the guarantee on Thursday in his palace when he hosted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management team in Sokoto along with a few chosen corps members.

Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba, the coordinator for Sokoto State, was in charge of the NYSC squad.

Speaking, the Sultan said, “In Sokoto, Sharia law is only binding on Muslims, nobody will force you to wear Hijab or force you to obey Islamic laws if you are not a Muslim.”

He urged the corps members to be good representatives of the scheme wherever they are posted to for their primary assignment.

“If you are posted to schools, impact the lives of the students, make them better than you met them,” he added.

Sultan To Leaders: Address Poverty, Insecurity For Sustainable Unity

The Sultan urged them further to impact their host communities positively.

“If you have a problem at the place of your primary assignment or where you are posted to, contact the district head over there; they are your guardians in the community,’’ he stated.

Nakamba during the visit appreciated the Sultan and praised the corps members for their exceptional discipline and obedience.
