The administration of Rivers State has refuted rumours that due to the recent political unrest in the oil-rich state, State Governor Siminalayi Fubara fired all local government chairmen as well as a few of his aides.
The administration claimed that Governor Fubara never issued an order in that respect or took any such action in a statement released on Tuesday by Warisenibo Johnson, Commissioner for Information and Communication.
Recall that in the wake of recent political events in Rivers, wherein the House of Assembly leadership was switched and the Governor received an impeachment notice from a faction of the House, there were rumours that Fubara had fired a few aides in an effort to strengthen his position within the state’s political hierarchy.

Johnson, however, refuted any such developments, emphasising that the governor is an upstanding democrat who acts in accordance with the law and out of fear of God.
He went on to say that the public will be informed when it was appropriate to learn who the governor might have removed.
The Commissioner’s statement reads: “There had been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.
“This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such directive as the official spokesman of the State government as at today Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

“Our dear governor is a technocrat, with robust civil service background, kind-hearted and a very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.
“We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time.
“It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course”.
