Following the recent invasion of its Agriculture Store in the Gwagwa/Karmo area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to distribute grains to residents to alleviate their suffering. The directive came from President Bola Tinubu, as communicated through a letter received by the FCTA.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, disclosed the constitution of a committee tasked with carrying out the presidential directive. The committee, announced during a meeting with Area Council chairmen and stakeholders, has less than two weeks to execute the directive.

Expressing disappointment with the council chairmen for their perceived indifference towards the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud warned against any actions that could hinder the president’s goodwill towards the territory’s residents.

Dr. Mahmoud highlighted the recent attack on the warehouses in Gwagwa and emphasized the need for immediate action to alleviate the suffering caused by the incident. She acknowledged President Tinubu’s efforts to address food security challenges and emphasized the importance of transparency in distributing the palliatives.

The committee, composed of various stakeholders including Area Council chairmen, FCT Emergency Management Agency, traditional rulers, security agencies, faith-based organizations, and civil society groups, will oversee the distribution process.
