Valentine Ozigbo, a candidate for Anambra State’s governorship in 2025, has declared his intention to run in order to prevent the state from crumbling.

Ozigbo, who is running on the Labour Party platform, made this statement on Sunday while speaking to dignitaries at Osisioma Peace Lodge, Umunya in the Oyi Local Government Area of the state. The dignitaries were from a variety of political and religious backgrounds.

Ozigbo declared that he possessed every qualification required to succeed him as Anambra State’s governor in 2025.

Speaking about his humble and disciplined upbringing, he described himself as a kid of grace. He also claimed that his desire to rescue the state and bring it back to its former glory.

The state’s current ranking as having the worst security difficulties in the Southeast, according to Ozigbo, can only be improved by the appropriate individual.

He reiterated his dedication and ability to use his experience in the business sector to turn around the state’s fortunes, insisting that Anambra required someone who could guide the state’s ship to the right path with backing from well-meaning people.

He said, “These are the basic things that need to be done to put Anambra on the map, but regretfully, the state has become unlivable due to the high crime rate and is becoming the worst in the entire South East.

“It is unfortunate that those things that made the state thick were now used to troll it, despite producing such eminent figures as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chinua Achebe, among others.

“Anambra needs someone to restore it to its past glory in order to shine again according to my mantra of ‘Ka Anambra Chawapu.’

“The development of Anambra State is beyond politics. Every hand must be on deck to make that happen, and this is why we must collectively ensure that the right person is produced to harness the State’s resources.”

Ozigbo, who identified as a natural born, promised to make Dr. Chike Obidigbo, the Chairman of the Osisioma Foundation, proud.

Sir Paul Chukwuma, frontline aspirant to the position of Anambra State governor in the All Progressives Congress  (APC), ahead of 2025, has inaugurated his manifesto committee. The team made up of professionals from different backgrounds, was commissioned on Tuesday in Anambra State, and charged with the responsibility to interrogate and fine-tune Mr. Chukwuma’s ideas. Their job also extends to implementation of those ideas when he is elected the governor of Anambra State. According to Chukwuma during his introductory speech, he has no intentions to give excuses and that is why the team is fundamental in his quest for quality leadership. “We are not interested in telling stories. We want to develop a document that has a practical bearing on the issues we are dealing with in Anambra State. A document we can speak to and relate to,” Chief Chukwuma said.

Anambra Gubernatorial Debate: Andy Uba Slams Soludo For Hiding Ideas From Obiano

Speaking further on the essence of the committee, Mr. Paul Chukwuma pointed out that development and growth cannot be achieved haphazardly. This he said, noting that ideas always form the basis for the pursuit of any kind of development. He also remarked that for optimal application, those ideas must be reviewed by a team of experienced thinkers and intellectuals so that the leader can have the most approximate template to run with and deliver on the people’s expectations. This might be the first time a governorship aspirant is trying to draw from the know-how of thinkers and intellectuals who play within the Anambra’s space.

Chukwuma, who highlighted some of the core focus of his administration observed that insecurity is a major problem in Anambra state and as such, would be one of his core objectives. “In Anambra State, our major challenge that our administration will not waste time to surmount is the issue of insecurity. Insecurity has unleashed unfathomable mayhem to our existence as a people. I am prepared to deal with that at once.” He equally pointed to the unstable power supply and noted that it would be one of the major things his administration would address with immediate effect. “We are going to ensure that Anambra has an uninterrupted power supply and that goes with infrastructure development.” Similarly, Mr. Chukwuma remarked that human capital development is one of the areas his administration is going to prioritize.

Charging the committee, they were given 90 days to deliver on their terms of reference. “We have given this committee a period of 90 days to turn in their report,” Paul Chukwuma said. The members of the committee are; Dr. Tony Oyima; former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Chief Uzu Okagbue; Harvard-trained leadership expert and a former Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of protocol to Anambra’s immediate past governor, Dr. Elijah Onyeagba; Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Burundi and former banker, Mr. Muyiwa Akin, Barr. C.J. Chinweuba, Amb. Uchenna J. Ubah, Prof. Charles Obiora, Prof. Chidi Udedi, Dr. Zack Bello, Dr. Emma Udeakpa; a retired Permanent Secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of Anambra State, Mr. Ejike Anyaduba and Hon. Linda Ikpeazu; serial member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives. Also, Dr. Tony Onyima was announced chairman of the committee, while Barr. C. J. Chinweuba is the secretary of the committee. The members of the committee are drawn from both private and public sectors and are expected to bring their experiences on board.

In his reaction after the inauguration, Dr. Onyima thanked Mr. Chukwuma and the committee, while assuring of the committee’s readiness to get the job done in record time. “Within 90 days, on or before that time, I want to believe that we will deliver. I assure you that we are not going to disappoint you,” Dr. Onyima said.

Meanwhile, Sir. Paul Chukwuma has fulfilled his promise of a vehicle to the youth wing of the Anambra APC, as he gifts them a brand new 2020 Toyota Hiance valued at almost a N100 million Naira. Receiving the car, the youth leaders of APC in Anambra state could not withhold their excitement. The new vehicle for the youth wing of Anambra State APC was handed over to the youth leadership of the party by Mr. Chukwuma in his home at Umueri on Tuesday.

Anambra Election: Supreme Court Reveals Why Andy Ubah’s Candidacy Was Nullified

The Supreme Court has ruled that the disqualification of Andy Uba, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, in the November 2021 Anambra governorship election was correct.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the apex court said this in a ruling issued on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court found that the APC governorship primary that produced Uba was illegitimate and unconstitutional in a unanimous judgement by a five-member panel of Justices.

The supreme court went on to say that because the primary was held unlawfully and in violation of the party’s standards, Uba’s candidacy was suspect and illegitimate.

Remember that a candidate in the APC primary election, George Moghalu, went to the Federal High Court to challenge the primary’s procedures and outcome.

Moghalu requested N122.5 million in damages, N100 million “for the violation of contract to begin and end primary election,” and a refund of the fee paid for expressions of interest and nomination forms in a lawsuit filed before the court.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, declared in December 2021 that Uba was never a candidate in the election after emerging from the APC’s fraudulently held primary election.

According to Ekwo, the plaintiff, George Moghalu, was successful in showing that the APC did not have a lawful primary election in which Uba claimed to have won the party’s flag bearer election on November 6, 2021.

Consequently, the presiding judge ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delete Uba’s name from its record as a candidate in the election.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, Uba approached the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, to declare him as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Anambra election.

In a judgement delivered on February 23, the appeal court dismissed the appeal filed by Uba and upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court which dismissed his candidacy as the APC flagbearer in the poll.

The ruling delivered by Justice Danlami Zenchi dismissed the appeals brought by Andy Uba and the APC against the judgment of the trial court for lack of merit.

2023 Elections: INEC Asks Security Agencies To Repeat Their Feat During Anambra Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday told security agencies to maintain the same level of professionalism during the governorship election in Anambra State for the 2023 general polls.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave the charge during the commission’s meeting with Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security which held in Abuja.

According to him, the governorship election in Anambra State passed off peacefully despite the tension and actual violence preceding it.

He said the Anambra poll would go down in history as a remarkable accomplishment.

Yakubu said, “On behalf of INEC, let me seize this opportunity to commend the professionalism of the security agencies without which the peaceful conduct of the election would not have been possible.

“I am confident that the standard of professional conduct displayed by INEC officials and the security agencies in the Edo, Ondo and Anambra governorship elections will be maintained in all forthcoming polls, including the 2023 general election.

“Our responsibility is to protect the process to guarantee its integrity while leaving the outcome of the election for voters to determine.”

He stressed the need for security agencies to provide adequate security for the 2023 election holding in 394 days time.

“Securing the nation under current circumstances is challenging enough. It is more so in an election year. Beginning from this meeting, we shall focus mainly on the best way to secure the electoral process in the most professional manner,” he added.

Speaking on the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, Yakubu said the commission was aware of the constraints experienced by many citizens in reaching the 811 designated centres nationwide to register

He added that some of the centres are separated by considerable distance from the places where citizens reside.

Yakubu said the process of activating the additional 1,862 centres nationwide to make it easier for citizens to exercise their right to register as voters is in motion.

“At the same time, we are mindful of the imperative of securing the process, especially the lives of registrants and our personnel. We will not put the lives of Nigerians and our registration officials at risk. For this reason, this meeting will review the security situation with a view to achieving our ultimate goal of activating 2,673 registration centres nationwide,” he said.

Monguno said all available security architecture of the government would be mobilised to achieve the objective of a credible election in 2023.

Anambra: Andy Uba Goes To Appeal Over Disqualification As APC Candidate

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the November 6 Anambra State governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, has formally appealed the judgment of a Federal High Court disqualifying him as the candidate of the APC.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja had on Monday, nullified the Uba’s candidacy on the grounds that the party did not hold its primaries.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Deputy Director, Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organisation, Mr Ikechukwu Onyia, said a 15-page appeal was filed on December 21, 2021.

According to the statement, the appeal was predicated on eight grounds, principal of which was that Justice Ekwo erred in his verdict.

One of the eight grounds of appeal dwelt on the issue of lack of territorial jurisdiction by Justice Ekwo’s division of the high court.

Onyia insisted that Ekwo’s arrogation of jurisdiction to his court was in error.

He said, “There is enough evidence for the appeal to succeed as Justice Ekwo should not have proceeded with the matter in the first place since his court lacked territorial jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

“The appellants are most confident that the appeal will succeed in the face of the very strong grounds on which it is premised.”

Anambra: Why We Didn’t Challenge Gov Election Result – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has said it decided not to challenge the outcome of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State to enable it to focus on rebuilding the party and providing a credible opposition.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had on November 10 declared a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Prof Charles Soludo, as the winner of the election.

INEC said the candidate of the PDP, Valentine Ozigbo, came second with 53,807 votes behind Soludo who polled 112,229 votes.

It said Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress got 43,285 votes while Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party polled 21,261 votes to come third and fourth, respectively.

Not satisfied with the result of the poll, Uba filed a petition before the Anambra State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

But the State Secretary of the PDP, Chukwuebuka Okolie-Akirika, said though the election was marred by failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, the party did not believe in heating the polity.

“We don’t believe in heating the polity unnecessarily. What happened was unfortunate. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System failed extensively on that day.

“We decided to take it in good faith and concentrate on rebuilding and offer Ndi Anambra the opportunity to constructively engage the incoming government by offering credible and alternative opposition so that in the fullness of time, people would have the opportunity to know that the PDP would have done better than APGA,” Okolie-Akirika said.

He further said, “In essence, we don’t want to go to the tribunal. Ndi Anambra have spoken. Rightly or wrongly, so be it.

“So, what we have resolved to do is to put our house in order, get ready for the next general elections and provide an alternative government for Ndi Anambra through constructive criticism.”

The party’s state secretary, however, advised Soludo to concentrate more on change than continuity.

The PDP state secretary said, “He should concentrate on changing the bad aspects or policies of the incumbent government, especially financial rascality and imprudence, and make sure that policies that touch the lives of Ndi Anambra were given priority over projects that cannot be achieved.

“He shouldn’t be carried away by projects like building an international conference centre when for the past eight years, there was no international event in Anambra State. There are so many hotels. Why is the government spending scarce resources to build an ICC?”

He further urged the governor-elect to reduce the cost of governance and mould his administration’s programmes in line with the sustainable development goals in the interest of people of the state.

“The incoming governor should endeavour to concentrate on projects that will impact meaningfully on the lives of Ndi Anambra. Anambra is not known for political patronage.

“We are known for pursuing policies that will benefit Ndi Anambra and not having people who go about as the governor’s SAs and PAs without doing anything that will affect the lives of the people.

“Let Soludo’s programmes be patterned after verifiable development goals so that our foreign partners can come to Anambra State,” Okolie-Akirika added.

APGA React As Rumour of Soludo Defecting To APC Emerge

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rubbished reports that the Governor-elect of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo has concluded plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party also debunked trending rumours that the incumbent Anambra Governor, Willie Obiano is set to dump APGA for APC.

Speaking at a press briefing in Akwa, Anambra State on Monday, the National Co-ordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, said “it’s childish propaganda” for anyone to say the two APGA leaders are set to dump the party.

He added that nothing could be farther from the truth about the alleged defection plans, describing it as “a lie from the pit of hell.”

In his words, “It’s important to say it boldly that the battle Governor Obiano fought on November 6th was a battle for the survival of APGA as the only Igbo party in Nigeria. He fought that battle with all his heart and God gave him victory.

“There was never a time Governor Obiano promised anybody that if Soludo wins the election, both of them will join APC.

“Governor Obiano nurtured a good relationship with President Buhari administration for the betterment of Ndi Anambra. The President respects the fact that Obiano is the leader of APGA and accords him that respect.

“The only thing Governor Obiano did that worked in favour of APGA in the November 6th governorship election is that he extracted a free and fair election commitment from President Buhari.

“The President promised him that the election would be free and fair without interference from the Presidency.

“President Buhari fulfilled the promise and the resultant effect is that the November 6th governorship election is now being applauded by Nigerians and international communities as the most free and fair election conducted by INEC in recent times.

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has congratulated the governor-elect of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, saying that he is excited that the people of the state disappointed all the bookmakers by making sure that the election was free, fair and credible in spite of tempers and palpable fear of a violent election that enveloped the state prior to the polls.

Anambra: Why I Rejected Governorship Election Result – Andy Uba

The All Progressives Congress APC Governorship candidate in Anambra state, Sen. Andy Uba has rejected the outcome of last Saturday’s Governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, saying, “it is surprising that APGA that lost almost 80% of its stalwarts through defection to the APC before the election came out ‘victorious’.

“The outcome of the election was a charade and did not reflect the wishes of the people of Anambra State”, said Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe, spokesperson of the Senator Andy Uba Campaign Organization.

The development came as INEC disclosed its readiness to present the Certificate of Return to the Governor-elect of the state, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.

The campaign organization said its candidate was a victim of widespread electoral fraud and manipulation by INEC.

It said a depleted APGA which saw its serving deputy governor in the state and about 17 state and federal lawmakers defecting to the APC could not be said to have been in any position to win the election.

Part of the statement reads; “Our popular candidate, Senator Andy Uba is a victim of widespread electoral fraud and manipulation by INEC in cohort with the Willie Obiano Regime and the security forces deployed to oversee the Anambra State Governorship Election.

“The elections were characterized by widespread irregularities, intimidation and voter suppression in order to clear the path for the inglorious ‘victory’ of APGA in the polls.

“For instance, in polling units where the Biometric Voters’ Accreditation System malfunctioned, INEC went ahead to conduct the elections manually. There were numerous cases where votes announced by INEC exceeded the number of accredited voters in polling units.

BREAKING: INEC Extends Voting To Sunday Due To System Failure

“Another clear manifestation of collusion between the Obiano Administration and INEC was the publishing of results on the Social Media handles of APGA even before the official announcement by INEC. Yet mysteriously, the votes announced in advance by APGA always corresponded correctly with the official figures released by INEC.

“It is inconceivable that our candidate, who polled over 200,000 votes in the APC primary election would be allocated slightly above 43,000 votes by INEC.

“It is surprising that APGA that lost almost 80% of its stalwarts through defection to the APC before the election came out ‘victorious’. A sitting APGA Deputy Governor, seven members of the House of Representatives, 10 members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, the APGA party’s member of Board of Trustees, many serving SA’s, SSA’s, in addition to a serving PDP Senator all defected to the APC very timely before the election, yet APGA emerged ‘victorious. This is quite ridiculous!

“From all indications, the only people remaining in APGA at the time of the election were Governor Obiano and his household and a few staff of the Government House as well as Prof. Soludo and his household but the majority of the electorates in Anambra State have moved to the APC. There was definitely no way the carcass of APGA could have defeated the APC without the active collusion and manipulation by INEC and the Obiano Administration.

“What happened on November 6, 2021, fell far below the acceptable standard of a free and fair election and can best be described as an electoral fraud perpetrated by the INEC, Willie Obiano Administration and the security forces.

“We have noted that starting from the appointment of INEC Adhoc staff, who mostly came from Calabar to the distribution of electoral materials and the retention of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, who supervised the second term election of Governor Obiano, it was crystal clear that the game plan was to overturn the popular wishes of the people of Anambra State in the biggest electoral heist of all time in Nigeria’s political history.

“While we appeal to our supporters to remain peaceful and calm, we will not relent in pursuing our stolen electoral mandate to the limit of the law through all the constitutional means available as the facts on the ground did not in any way reflect the outcome of the elections as announced by the obviously compromised INEC”.

Meanwhile, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, Barr. Festus Okoye in a statement said the commission will issue Certificates of Return to Prof. Soludo and the deputy governor-elect on Friday (today).

“Following the conclusion of the election and as provided for in Section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), certificates of return will be presented to the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect tomorrow Friday 12th November 2021 at our State office in Awka”, he stated.

He said the 2021 Anambra State Governorship election was conducted under the most challenging circumstances.

“Never before did the Commission have to grapple with numerous issues ahead of an off-season Governorship election, including attacks on our facilities, withdrawals of critical service providers such as the ad hoc staff and transporters on the eve of the election and the general tension pervading the atmosphere. Happily, the election passed off peacefully”, Okoye stated.

On the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS, he said the commission will continue to test-run it in order to achieve perfection.

He said; “After the supplementary election in Ihiala Local Government Area on Tuesday 9th November 2021 and before the process was concluded, the Commission commenced a preliminary review of the functionality of systems, particularly the newly introduced Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS.

“The system performed two functions on election day. First is the accreditation of voters using both fingerprint and facial authentication. Secondly, it snaps the polling unit level result sheets and uploads them in real-time to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal. This aspect of the BVAS functionality performed optimally such that by the early hours of Sunday morning, results from 4,987 (88.5%) out of 5,634 polling units had been uploaded for public view. While still in the field, our ICT team responded to the identified glitches in the accreditation of voters and corrected them. Consequently, in the Ihiala supplementary election, there were no reported incidents of BVAS malfunction.

“We will carry out an in-depth examination of the system, review reports from accredited observers and the media and respond to all identified challenges ahead of the next major Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held on 12th February 2022.

“We shall again test run the system in the bye-election (s) that may arise before then. The Commission remains convinced that despite some glitches experienced in Anambra State Governorship election, the deployment of technology in elections is better than the best manual process”.

Anambra: President Buhari Reacts To Soludo’s Victory

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Professor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on his victory at the 2021 Anambra governorship election.

The President in a message on Wednesday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security operatives for the roles played in ensuring the success of the polls.

It will be recalled that the Returning Officer of the election, Professor Florence Obi had in the early hours of Wednesday, declared Soludo of APGA as the winner of the election and governor-elect of Anambra State.

In his reaction, President Buhari called on Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and work with all stakeholders in ensuring the challenges facing the state and the entire southeast are overcome.

He told Soludo he looks forward to working with him in his new role.

The full statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as he emerges winner in the gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
