Plans to create the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States, a new confederation, have been finalised by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
The declaration was made on Friday after the foreign ministers of the three countries met in Niamey, the capital of Niger, according to AFP.
The finalisation of the draft language outlining the institutionalisation and operationalization of the AES has been announced by Bakary Sangare, the Foreign Minister of Niger.

“The objective was to finalise the draft text relating to the institutionalisation and operationalization of the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States,” Sangare said.
“We can consider very clearly, today, that the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States has been born,” declared Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop.
The Heads of State of the three countries will formally adopt the text at an upcoming summit, although the exact date has not been specified.
