PREAMBLE

Notable Leaders and people of Nnewi polity met in a solemn gathering at the Anaedo Hall, Nnewi to deliberate towards a more united Nnewi activities most importantly the future of Nnewi politics and to define what actually Nnewi polity wants in Anambra State and more importantly Nigeria.

After exhaustive deliberations by the largest gathering of Nnewi people in a major political summit, the following communiqué was adopted.

  • Summit recalls with nostalgia, the great contributions Nnewi has made to the politics of Anambra State since the inception of the return to democracy.
  • Summit recalls that Nnewi over the past ten (10) years has not had its rightful place in all spheres of governance; from the office of Governor, Senate, Major political appointments both Federal and State despite its heavy contributions physically, morally, financially in the State politics.
  • Summit noted also the crisis of zoning controversy that wants to disrupt the unity and cohesion existing in Nnewi.
  • Summit noted that Nnewi does not have a definition of what it actually wants in the politics and development of the polity.

The summit therefore resolved that;

  • Nnewi should define what it wants in the polity of the state and come together in unity to fight for it. Similarly, the desirable development objectives should be defined and pursued.
  • Nnewi should present its best eleven in any contestable position.
  • The present zoning formula of one term rotation among the four Nnewi communities as previously established by the Nzuko-Ora Nnewi and Nnewi Stake-holders in previous meetings should be sustained. Hence,it is the turn of Nnewichi to contest for 2019 State House of Assembly. Any agreeable changes can however be introduced at the onset and not midway into any term of office.
  • That our aspirants for the National Assembly positions should make wide consultations and necessary alliances in order to achieve the success we desire.
  • That our illustrious son vying for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has the support of the community.
  • That these agreed positions of the Nnewi Professionals and Stakeholders taken today shall form the basis for a new Nnewi polity with an attendant benefits of peace and unity, fair-play, development and progress of the town.
