Anambra state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party PDP has hailed the choice of Mr Peter Obi as the party’s vice presidential candidate, describing it as a genuine commitment to nationhood.
A  statement release by the State chairman of PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu said that the choice of the former governor was a clear indication that “we still have statemen who are considerably detribalized and genuinely concerned about the need for equitable allocation of public offices, as well as the fair distribution of our collective resources across the component units of Nigeria”.
Chief Nwobu further stated that this recent move by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the leadership of PDP shows “utmost commitment to embrace inclusive political alliance targeted at correcting the ills of marginalization and maladministration which has become the stock-in-trade of the present regime”. He assured that the state in particular and southeast in general would reciprocate this kind gesture by given the Atiku/Obi ticket all necessary support. In his reaction a member of the state Executive committee of the PDP, Mr John Okoli-Akirika said the entire people of the state are happy that Mr Peter Obi has been chosen to run on a joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar, and described the duo as the needed therapy that would heal the current socio-political and economic diseases bedeviling the nation.
“Nigeria’s bleeding economy demands immediate surgical operation which only sound economic policies from Atiku/Obi joint ticket can guarantee.” Mr Okoli-Akirika noted that having worked closely with the former governor, as a commissioner for lands, he was confident that Atiku has made the best choice which deserves the support of every well-meaning Nigerian. The PDP chieftain extolled the pragmatic leadership qualities of the party’s National chairman, Chief Uche Secondus, especially as regards his ability to keep the party United, even after a keenly contested presidential primary.
“With the way Chief Secondus is piloting the affairs of the party, he will go down in history as the best National chairman of the PDP.” Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of a civil society organization, known as Mass Movement for Good Governance MMGG, Mr Ejiofo Umegbogu said the country is in dare need of business-minded leaders and time tested technocrats; who can create wealth, improve the economy and reduce poverty among Nigerians.

Mr Umegbogu described Peter Obi as a pacesetter whose exemplary public lifestyle has continued to inspire new interest in politics among young intelligentsia. The spokesman of the group said the MMGG under the leadership of Dr MacBruce Adebule would throw its weight behind candidates with verifiable record achievements and the capacity to lift Nigerians from the present state of despair, through good governance.
