Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka witnessed convergence of its Old Boys in a ceremony that showcased their commitment to the development of their Alma Mater as the school marked its 60th anniversary of existence.

Founded in 1958, Igwebuike Grammar School has in its sixty years of existence, not only bred individuals with outstanding accomplishments but also grown in leaps and bounds to be rated among one of the best
Secondary schools in terms of academic and sporting performances.

During the ceremony, some of the projects undertaken by the Old Boys including the completed Ultramodern School Gate, the Ornamental trees planted and the beautiful landscaping were inaugurated by Governor
Willie Obiano.

It also featured a fund raising for the numerous ongoing projects by the Old Boys as well as provided the opportunity for them to reunite and relive good old memories.

Governor Obiano, who was represented by the State Head of Service,
Barrister Harry Uduh, at a reception organized for the anniversary, while felicitating with the school on its anniversary, commended the
Old Boys for the leadership they are providing to transform the institution.

He called on privileged individuals to always remember their Alma Aater and make meaningful inputs towards their progress.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, who noted that government alone cannot effectively provide all that is required for qualitative education, lauded what the Old
Boys are doing in the school.

For the National President of the Old Boys Association, Chief Emmanuel Nwobu, the celebration will help strengthen effective collaboration between the Old Boys and the College that will stimulate infrastructural upgrading and restoration of the noble ideals of the founding fathers of the school, in the contemporary students.

He sought the support of all especially the government towards addressing the challenges of poor infrastructure, dilapidated fencing and lack of teachers facing the school.

The Principal of the School, Mr. Richard Anekokwu, said the efforts of the Old Boys have been instrumental to the successes recorded by students of the College and also appreciated the state government for its well-designed program for the development of education which the school has benefitted immensely from.

At a ceremony held earlier at the school premises, the Old Boys and guests inspected facilities at the school especially the ongoing
examination hall being constructed by Anambra State Government.

Also at the event, the Anniversary Tree was also planted and prizes presented to outstanding students in all the classes while a sixteen-year-old former student of the College, who emerged best in Jamb in the
State, Master Anthony Umeh, was presented with a scholarship award abroad and a HP laptop.
